Occupational Therapist Job Specification

DG Therapy Group

Occupational Therapists (OTs) work with/help children who have conditions that are mentally, physically, developmentally, or emotionally disabling to improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and natural environments. The results are children who have achieved the highest possible level of advancement for their individual case and parents/care-givers that understand their child's situation and are very happy with their progress.

Engage children in purposeful functional activities to promote regain or maintain health and wellbeing, using play or educational activities as therapy while enabling individuals to perform these tasks as independently as possible. Work with children of all ages and their support group (parents, care givers, teachers, etc) to improve the quality of their lives through Home/Classroom programs, training, consultation, etc.

Assess patients' or clients' physical, mental and/or social challenges and devise treatment programs to increase their ability to tackle their difficulties independently. OTs create/modify programs according to individual needs. This may involve environmental modifications. Review treatment periodically, evaluate progress and modify treatment as appropriate.
